Culture
Customs: This town is in the centreof the region of La Marina Baixa and its centuries-old source of income, agriculture, was first reinforced, them later surpassed, by tourism- most favoured by the beautiul views of the whole town and region is the flea market, held every Sunday, where the stallholders, whom we might call professionals of rarities, bargains andantiques, show a winding display of the most heterogeneous and enigmatic objects. The tree-lined avenue of Porvilla and adjacent streets become on these mornings the living centre of the region, a place to meet friends and acquaintrances by change or arrangement. The high number of transactions carried out there is a proof of the succec of this event.
Market gardens occupy the which go down to the sea in the direction of the basin of the Algar, a route emphasised by the water which flows from Torrent to the Font de La Favara. The kindness of nucieros emerges in this natural environment. They are people who love maintaining their traditions and customs and agood example of it is a tradicional sport called "pelota valenciana". A long time ago, the streets were the setting for this sport, which is still alive today. Apart from hree, you can only enjoy it in few places.
Museums and Libraries:
Near La Nucia there are a few museums to visit such as the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum or the Chocolate Museum in Villajoyosa. In Callosa d'en Sarria you have the possibility to visit the Water, Environment and Archaeological-Etnographic Museums. In La Nucia there is a fully-equipped Municipal Library, recently restored, in 15, Carretera Avenue.
The town is also the Central Office of the University of Alicante, which organises different courses in summertime.
