Beaches
One can see why the Benidorm beaches have become the Costa Blanca’s main tourist area. Their range of leisure amenities is simply vast.
The beautiful fine, golden sand is cleaned on a daily basis and the transparency of the crystal clear blue water are just two of the reasons.
Benidorm’s resort is divided into two main beach areas with the ‘old town centre’ nestled in the middle.
Most bathers gather on the beach known as the Playa de Levante. It’s located two kilometres from Benidorm’s old town centre, the Sierra Gelada and the Ricón de Loix. It is the largest beach and offers an array of watersports such as jet skiing, banana boat rides, para-sailing and scuba diving. There are also man-made rafts anchored slightly offshore from which you can dive.
The second beach, the Playa de Poniente can be found near the Finestrat cove on the western edge of the old town centre and stretches for two miles to the lesser known area of La Cala. The latter beach resembles the former, though it is far more peaceful.
Between the old town centre and the Playa de Poniente there is a small cove known as the Playa del Mal Pas that you can walk to using the steps that descend from the castle or from the port.
Both of these Benidorm beaches are flanked by attractive promenades with plenty of restaurants and bars to enjoy throughout the day or night.
At Ricón de Loix there is a professional cableski and watersports centre where you can learn to waterski without the need for a boat! They guarantee you will be able to waterski within one hour. This is the official site if the Spanish Cableski Championships |
